Stafford Tollemache

Stratford Tollemache arrived in the Yukon in 1898 via the Stikine Trail. His first three years in the north were spent in mining until a severe accident resulted in permanent lameness. When his foot became stronger, he moved to the Pelly River and trapped for a further six years. Tollemache had travelled in India, Burma, and the Malay Peninsula. His partner in the Yukon was Henry Berry. Tollemache left the Yukon in 1909 and published a book of his reminiscences in 1912. He expressed his prejudiced opinions of people born outside the United States and First Nation people quite freely.1)
