Charles Walters (1927 – 2018)
Charles Walters was born and raised in Antigua. He immigrated to Canada as a mature student to study theology at Emmanuel College, University of Saskatchewan. Following the completion of his theology degree and ordination, Reverend Walters served in the Anglican Diocese of Yukon and the Diocese of Athabasca.1)
In 1963, Reverend Walters was a lay reader and vice principal at the Chooutla residential school.2) He spearheaded the Army Cadet Corp in the Lesser Slave area and then went as chaplain to Cold Lake, Alberta, Nanaimo, Aldergrove, and North Vancouver in British Columbia. In 1980, he was transferred to the Diocese of New Westminster. He was rector at churches in Squamish (1980-87) and then Kitsilano. His last appointment was in Aldergrove between 1989 and 1994 and then he served as an Honorary Assistant at St. Martin, North Vancouver until 2016.3)
