Dorothy Wasylynchuk

Dorothy Wasylynchuk worked in the workers’ compensation office in Edmonton before an office opened in Whitehorse in October 1970. She set up the Whitehorse office and became the Workmen’s Compensation Administrator with Patricia Cunning and Helen Hunter as staff. In 1971, the office staff, working in the Casca Building, had increased to seven and they were serving 18,390 residents – an increase of over 4,000 since 1966. In 1972, Wasylynchuk was designated to determine claims in respect of temporary disability. In 1976, the Yukon government established a four-member Workmen’s Compensation Board appointed by the Commissioner for a three-year term.1) Patricia Cunning later became the president of the Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board.
