W.W. Williams came to the Yukon diocese in 1918 to replace Reverend F. H. Buck who was the Church Camp Missionary working among the mining camps of the Klondike creeks, and who enlisted in the First World War in 1916. Two days before Mr. Williams arrived, the Reverend J. A. Davies, Rector of St. Paul's left to take up military duties and so the Bishop asked Mr. Williams to take charge of St. Paul's and ordained him deacon on the Sunday following his arrival in the diocese, 16 June 1918. Williams was presented by Reverend B. Totty of Moosehide who also assisted in the service. At the ordination service, Mr. Middleton, who was then in charge of Carmacks, was advanced to the priesthood. Both Middleton and Williams were graduates of the British Columbia Anglican Theological College.1)
